Impacts of the Thai-EU Free Trade Agreement on plant varieties, biodiversity and food security

If Thailand accepts the intellectual property law in the course of the negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement of EU-Thai, Thailand would have to amend its 1999 Plant Varieties Protection Act to make Thai law consistent with the 1991 UPOV Convention.  This will have several impacts on farmers,

BioThai warns of a papaya export crisis

Warning: exports of papaya are reaching a crisis point, after European Union investigations found that a record no of papaya exports from Thailand had GMO contamination.  This means that Thailand may be about to lose the entire European market for papayas.
